Standout Sensation lived up to her reputation once again, winning the $150,000 Pippin Stakes for fillies and mares aged three and older at Oaklawn on Friday by one and a half lengths. The favorite at $4 odds, Standout Sensation seized the lead from the outside with three furlongs remaining and held off a strong late challenge from Queen Aztec, securing her fourth consecutive victory and fifth win in her last six races.

Queen Aztec finished second, finishing five and a half lengths ahead of Injust My Heels, who struggled early after being checked on the first turn. The rest of the order included Peignoir, Corning Stone, and early leader Regan’s Frame. Corning Stone, with career earnings of $979,978, was aiming to become the first certified Indiana-bred to hit the $1 million mark.

Jockey Luis Saez notched his second win of the day riding Standout Sensation, who completed the 1 1/16 mile race in 1:44.19 on a fast track. Trainer Tom Amos, representing owners Richard J. Emmett and Joel Politi, has now earned $100,000 since Standout Sensation’s breakthrough victory at Churchill Downs last November. Over the past 13 months, the filly has consistently excelled, finishing first or second in 10 out of 11 starts. Her first stakes win came in the 1 1/8-mile Turnback the Alarm at Aqueduct earlier this year.

The 4-year-old daughter of Take Charge Indy has now earned $660,237 from 25 races, boasting six career wins. Racing will resume on Saturday at 12:30 pm Central with a 10-race card featuring all 2-year-olds, highlighted by a $150,000 Year’s End Stakes for one-mile fillies.

Winning jockey Luis Saez commented on the race, noting how the first turn was tricky but praised Standout Sensation’s willingness and responsiveness. Trainer Tom Amos said the filly delivered what he believes to be her best race yet, highlighting her ability to maintain a fast pace and still emerge victorious.

Fan Take: Standout Sensation’s remarkable consistency and impressive winning streak underscore the exciting depth of talent among fillies and mares in the sport today. Her continued success not only electrifies fans but also highlights the thrilling potential for competitive racing as younger horses step up in high-stakes events.
