Newcastle United midfielder Joelinton recently visited his former club Sport Recife to witness the win over Nautico.

The win took them to the top of the Brasileiro Serie B table, but the Newcastle star was in attendance to support his former club.

The Newcastle United midfielder came through the Brazilian club’s academy before leaving to compete in Europe. Joelinton played for Rapid Wien and Hoffenheim before joining Newcastle United for a fee of £40 million.

He has been an important player for Newcastle since joining. Despite his success in England, he maintained strong ties with the Brazilian club and was even seen wearing a home shirt with ‘Joelington 7’ written on the back.

The Newcastle United star was presented with a home shirt by the Brazil national team as he attended the match.

Recife shared a post on social media (translated from Brazilian): “Look who’s here! Joelinton came to visit us on vacation and crushed our retirement island dreams. We have another fan of the classic black blonde! Always happy to be around Big Joe!”

Meanwhile, the Newcastle midfielder has not been included in the Brazil World Cup squad and will be disappointed by the situation. He has had some reliable performances in the Premier League and would have been expected to represent his country at the World Cup.

He will now get in shape and prepare for next season. Newcastle have had a difficult season and will be looking to bounce back strongly. They will need their key players to be fit and firing on all cylinders. The Brazilian will need to perform at a high level if Newcastle want to win trophies and qualify for the Champions League next season.
