Joan Mir Gears Up for 2025 Honda MotoGP Bike with Heightened Sensitivity to Changes

Former MotoGP world champion Joan Mir has shared that the enhanced engine features on Honda’s 2025 bike feel more “sensitive” to him. After struggling through a tough 2024 season, Honda made considerable improvements with their 2025 Challenger, leading to more consistent and stronger performances.

Honda not only secured a win in wet conditions at Le Mans with Johann Zarco but also achieved three podium finishes on dry tracks, including two podiums for Mir at Motegi and Sepang. Honda’s total points in 2025 surpassed their 2024 tally by 210 points, lifting them from the bottom of the 2026 concession rankings.

Throughout the 2025 season, Honda took advantage of various updates, with the engine changes standing out as the most crucial for Mir. When asked in Valencia about the key improvements, Mir emphasized that it wasn’t just one element but a combination of better aerodynamics, engine, grip, electronics, and overall understanding that made a difference.

Mir highlighted that the engine’s character particularly suited him, making it distinct from other Honda bikes. He noted that he is more sensitive to aspects like throttle control, which might be more challenging for him compared to others. Additionally, front-end feel and braking stability have improved considerably, reaching a good level, even though they weren’t perfect before.

Mir ended the season 15th in the standings with 96 points, finishing only nine out of 22 races. Throughout the year, he managed to complete back-to-back races just once, placing 10th, seventh, and 11th from Silverstone to Mugello. Zarco led the Honda riders in 12th place, with Mir’s teammate Luca Marini in 13th.

Both Mir and Marini are set to enter the final year of their contracts with Honda in 2026.

Fan Take: This news is exciting for racing fans as it signals Honda’s return to competitiveness through meaningful technical advancements. Improved bike performance and rider adaptability could lead to closer, more thrilling contests on the track, revitalizing the sport’s intense rivalries.
