Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze was fired by the university just hours after a crushing 10-3 loss to Kentucky as fans booed him and chanted “Fire Hugh” as he left the field.

However, some fans sensed that the former Ole Miss coach might be preparing for his departure by not being on the tee sheet for the Auburn University club, where Freeze was known to have a standing tee time on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

3. NCAA Men’s Golf Championship Highlights: Michael La Sasso wins Indy title, match play set

In the third round of the NCAA Golf Championship, half of the field was cut, leaving just 15 teams to advance to the final round.

Auburn, the defending national champion, led by four strokes after three rounds of stroke play, and Ole Miss junior Michael La Sasso took medalist honors by two strokes over Texas A&M senior Pichakusun Maishon. Both players were finalists for the Haskins Award.

After a marathon day at the 2025 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship, only two teams had a chance to win the national title. Virginia and Oklahoma State competed for the right to be called national champions. The Cowboys had a thrilling victory.

5. This Division I school plans to eliminate its golf program immediately

Stephen F. Austin State University announced it will cut its men’s and women’s golf programs at the end of the school year. The school said the decision was made based on the division’s persistent budget deficit and the anticipated financial impact of future revenue-sharing requirements with Division I players.
