The Perry County Fiscal Court has revealed plans to lease the Minard Ranch in Cornettsville, Kentucky, to the Appalachian Horse Project to address issues related to free-roaming horses in eastern Kentucky. The 80-acre site, along with its facilities, will be renamed “Miniad Farm’s Appalachian Horse Center.” According to welfare manager Bernice Amberghi, the center will focus on rescuing stray horses that need specialized care. Additionally, Amberghi mentioned that one of the center’s aims is to boost tourism in the region by providing educational and hands-on opportunities involving rescued horses.

This news was first published by the Paulick Report on December 30, 2025, in their Horse Care section.

Fan Take: This initiative is significant for horse racing enthusiasts because it promotes the welfare of horses and raises awareness about their care outside of the track. By improving the health and visibility of free-ranging horses, it could also foster stronger community support and engagement for the sport as a whole.
