Report: West Ham prepare for January departure as midfielder approaches move to European giants

West Ham are preparing for a major departure in January, with experienced midfielder Guido Rodriguez reportedly close to a loan move to Serie A giants Juventus.

According to a new report from Tutto Mercato Web, the 31-year-old World Cup winner has already expressed his “interest” in moving from East London to Turin.

Juventus are currently evaluating their options as they look to strengthen their engine room for the second half of the campaign.

The ‘Old Lady’ reportedly have ambitious long-term plans to sign Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, but the financial cushion of such a deal would make Rodriguez a far more attractive and lower-cost alternative.

The report underlines that signing a new midfielder is a top priority for Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti.

The Italian club established contact regarding Rodriguez several months ago and is now believed to be ready to make a final decision.

The proposed contract structure is expected to be on loan for the remainder of the season, with a possible buyout option, and Rodriguez is estimated to be valued at around €10 million.

While other suitors are keeping an eye on the situation, Juventus remain in the lead, with imminent developments expected as the winter window heats up.

West Ham are in serious danger of relegation

The experienced international’s possible departure comes at a precarious time for West Ham.

The Hammers are currently enduring a tough 2025/26 season and find themselves embroiled in a serious battle to avoid relegation.

With the club perilously close to relegation, allowing the experienced defensive midfielder to leave is a calculated risk.

They currently sit in 18th place with just 14 points out of 20. They have won only three games all season.

Their worst result came on Saturday, when they lost to the 20th-placed Wolves, who have yet to have a winning record this season.

Nuno Espirito Santo is under huge pressure and his sacking is now very likely.
