Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi has emerged as one of the Premier League’s hottest defenders, but the latest information suggests the 25-year-old has a clear preference if he leaves Selhurst Park.
According to information shared on the Let Me Talk podcast, Gehi would prefer a move to Liverpool over Manchester City, despite strong and continued interest from manager Josep Guardiola’s side.
Gehi is nearing the final months of his contract and is expected to become a free agent in the summer.
Crystal Palace are keen to keep him until the end of the season, even if it means losing him for nothing, but increased pressure from top clubs could accelerate his departure in January if a huge transfer fee is offered.
Manchester City have immediate interest in Marc Guehi
For City, the urgency is clear. Guardiola is short on options in central defense due to injuries to Joshko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias.
As a result, City are keen to strengthen their defense as they aim to maintain their momentum in the Premier League title race and Champions League, with Gehi a priority target.
But despite interest from City and the chance to play for the world’s best manager, the latest reports suggest Gehi’s heart may lie elsewhere.
“Guehi would like to stay until the summer, but in any case he prefers Liverpool,” the podcast claims.
The update will be welcomed by Liverpool officials who have been monitoring Gehi for several months as part of their long-term defensive strategy.
With Ibrahima Konate’s future uncertain as contract negotiations continue, and Virgil van Dijk entering the latter stages of his career, Liverpool see Gehi as an immediate successor who could be a pillar of Anfield’s defense for years to come.
Gehi wants to move to City’s rivals Liverpool
Gehi’s consistent performances, leadership qualities and composure on the ball impressed Liverpool’s recruitment team.
His Premier League experience and status as a regular player in the England squad make him a particularly attractive option for Arne Slott, who values defenders’ comfort in both duels and build-up play.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace remain in a difficult position. Allowing the captain to leave in January could weaken the team, but keeping him until the summer means losing a top asset for free.
City may be poised to make a move soon, but Liverpool’s advantage could increase even further if Gehi waits for a summer move.
