Charles Leclerc started the Home Formula 1 Grand Prix in the best possible way by topping the timesheets in his first practice.

The winner of the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix did not have a smooth first practice session. Leclerc ran a big turn five at the opening a few minutes after locking the right front tire.

Leclair then stumbles behind Aston Martin’s Lance walking through the hairpin. Leclerc was on a hot knee at the time, but he didn’t see him coming on the walk.

Luckily for Leclerc, he was able to return to Pit Lane with just a small amount of damage. Meanwhile, there was a huge loss in the rear of his car, so Stroll’s session ended.

Despite his complaints about Team Radio, Leclerc was quick. He attacked the top of the timesheet at 11.964 1M.

The advantage of Leclerc comes in the first sector, consisting of high-speed corners, where Ferrari still loses at slow speeds. A slow lap from Max Verstappen made him second order.

Rand Norris was the third fastest McLaren lead. Alex Albon continued Williams’ strong start to the year, setting the fourth fastest time in the session.

Oscar Piastri has two McLarens in the top five, nearly 0.4 seconds off Leclerc’s pace. George Russell was sixth overall for Mercedes, less than a tenth of the Carlos Sign.

Pierre Guthrie placed 8th in the Alpine, 0.5 seconds from Leclair’s benchmark. Lewis Hamilton was second in Ferrari and was ninth.

The seven-time world champion ran across the curb at the swimming pool chicane at the end of the lap, resulting in his car temporarily going into the air.

Fernando Alonso concluded the top 10 for Aston Martin.
