Crystal Palace are set to look for a long-term replacement for Oliver Glasner, but it could spell bad news for West Brom and Burnley.

Palace beat Wolves on Sunday, but it was only their second win in 16 games across all competitions.

Fans prepared banners before the final whistle.

“A missed opportunity. The board was incompetent. The fans were disrespected. Glasner is done.”

That was the message inside Selhurst Park – even with three points, it was aimed at our manager, not our opponents.

It was a stark illustration of just how bad relations have deteriorated between Glasner and the Palace faithful, and how little goodwill remains for the man who was hailed as a club hero for delivering two great trophies in less than 12 months.

The Austrians’ position has worsened in recent weeks.

He surprised the crowd with a press conference after the draw with Bosnian great Zrinjski, in which he appeared to raise his hands and admitted that he was not capable of coping with the demands placed on the team this season.

It was thought that the Eagles had settled on having their manager watch out the season.

You can’t replace those who leave, he said. He was unable to integrate the new arrivals. He couldn’t manage his schedule. It was an unusual confession from a manager who is still on duty, and it has been rattling around the corridors of Selhurst Park ever since.

Discussions have been taking place between Glasner and the board regarding his future, and the current understanding is that he will play out the remainder of the season before leaving at the end of his contract.

For now, Steve Parrish has decided not to pull the trigger early. But Palace are already making plans. The search for a new manager is progressing quietly behind the scenes.

Palace have been linked with club legend Gareth Southgate, who has been unemployed since leaving England in 2024, and former Tottenham manager Thomas Frank.

Frank is said to be Palace’s frontrunner, but there is another former Premier League manager keen to throw him into the ring.

Former Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche was sacked by Tricky Trees earlier this month and has attracted interest from West Brom and Burnley.

But the tactician appears to have set his sights on the job at Selhurst Park.

According to Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke, Dyche has revealed he is interested in talking to Palace about replacing Glasner.

The 54-year-old Forest manager has been in charge for less than four months, and despite winning six of 18 league games and posting a respectable overall winning percentage, it wasn’t enough to protect his slumping status.

Before joining Forest, Dyche spent two years at Everton, sustaining back-to-back seasons that many thought were hopeless, with the English player praised for his “remarkable” work.

“What I’m saying is he had to suffer two deductions, but he still managed to bring everyone together and still carries that spirit within him,” said Darren Fletcher of TNT Sports in 2024.

“He went through a period where the team wasn’t winning, didn’t have double-digit wins, and he still managed to keep the team together.

“I think it’s a great job that he did given everything that was thrown at him.

“And let’s not forget that the summer he spent he did virtually nothing in terms of strengthening the team to the level he wanted. Yet he managed to do everything that fell into his lap and keep this team in the Premier League with relative comfort.”

Dyche also won a Championship title with Burnley and kept them at the top level for years, again on a shoestring budget.

He sees the Palace role as a real opportunity to return to Premier League management and is thought to be open to talks with the club.

But while Daish is on the list, he is far from the top of the list at this point. Palace have a number of options and Frank remains the priority.
