Manchester United are keen to sign two Newcastle United players this summer and recently joined the race to sign Sandro Tonali.
At the end of March, manager Eddie Howe hinted that Tonali could stay if Newcastle qualify for Europe this season, saying: “He is a top player and I would expect him to stay (at the club) if the team was able to participate in any European competitions.
“I can see why it’s difficult[for him]because if Newcastle don’t win Europe at all, do you expect him to[stay]?”
However, after Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace, the Magpies have slipped to 14th place and are now within the realm of possibility of progressing into the Europa Conference League.
It would therefore not be surprising to see the Italian seek a move this summer, but United are expected to win the race to sign him if he becomes available.
Michael Carrick says the Red Devils are planning to strengthen their presence in the center of the park, even as Koby Mainu inches closer to agreeing a new contract. “It’s coming, so we’re thinking positively about it.
“Time will tell, but we are staying calm and are in a good position at the moment.”
Casemiro is due to leave the club when his contract expires this summer, making the signing of a new central midfielder essential, but United are also looking to pounce on their Premier League rivals for a left-back.
Red Devils aim to raid Newcastle for Lewis Hall
Man United are in the race to sign Lewis Hall, with the defender being targeted by all of Europe’s top clubs following his performances for Newcastle this season, reports Caught Offside.
The 21-year-old is under contract until 2029, giving the Magpies a good negotiating position. That means it could take an offer of between £50m and £55m to convince him to allow a sale.
United’s interest stems from the fact that Luke Shaw is due to turn 31 this summer and the left-back has struggled on the injury front throughout the past five seasons.
Luke Shaw’s injury history | Missed club and national team matches |
2020-21 | 17 |
2021-22 | 16 |
2022-23 | 3 |
2023-24 | 47 |

Newcastle content creator Pete Davey hailed Hall as “absolutely sensational”, and he has been a key player for Howe this season, making 41 appearances in all competitions.
However, with any luck, there may not be a pressing need to sign a new left-back any time soon, with Shaw overcoming his injury problems and playing in every Premier League game for Man United this season.
