Manchester United have currently been given the green light to sign Cristian Romero from Tottenham Hotspur, with INEOS potentially offering a cut-price deal.
Manchester United set to face Real Madrid over Romero signing
There are plenty of reasons for optimism for the Red Devils these days. Not only are they on track to qualify for the Champions League, they are on the path to achieving it in style.
With doubts surrounding Michael Carrick emerging for the first time in recent weeks, the caretaker manager scored a much-needed win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, adding to wins against Arsenal and Manchester City during his tenure.
It remains to be seen whether Matheus Cunha’s winner was enough to tempt INEOS to give Carrick a permanent contract. Recent rumors suggest that all options are being considered, with players such as Julian Nagelsmann threatening to dominate the headlines.
Whoever takes charge this summer will be backed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Ratcliffe had already transformed Man United’s front line with impressive additions last year.
This tactic appeared to target Premier League talent last summer and has brought plenty of success since then. As a result, the Red Devils are not going to fix what isn’t broken.
Manchester United in talks to replace Carrick with elite manager who has won 11 trophies
The Red Devils are keen to hire a ‘world class’ manager.
According to Caught Offside, Man United have been given the green light to sign Romero from Tottenham this summer, with Spurs initially keen to keep their captain, but are now open to selling him.
As it stands, Spurs are just one point away from safety with five games remaining. The captain is increasingly unlikely to stay and has publicly hinted he would be open to a move, but a drop would see his €65m (about £57m) price tag fall further.
But the Red Devils are not the only ones interested in the Tottenham captain, with both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid eyeing the tough-tackling defender.
Romero is Maguire’s successor
Days after Nousser Mazraoui was forced to start at centre-back against Chelsea, Man United have set their sights on signing Romero. The Argentine defender will tick a lot of boxes this summer, not the least of which is Premier League expertise.
Either way, Romero definitely deserves to win. While Aiden Haven and Lenny Yolo are future stars, United are still without an experienced centre-back in their prime next to Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez due to injury problems with Matthijs de Ligt.
PL 25/26 | Maguire | Romero |

tackle | 12 | 58 |
collect | 45 | 88 |
Successful duel | 70.9% | 66.2% |

Described as “incredible” by his centre-back partner Micky van de Ven, Romero is undoubtedly a player to watch this summer.
He could even replace Maguire in Man United’s best squad, given that he has outperformed the England international in several areas this season.
