NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. (AP) — PGA Championship final round summary:

Winner: Aaron Rye had six birdies over the last 10 holes and shot a 5-under 65 to win by three strokes at 9-under 271.

Silver Medal: Jon Rahm (68) and Alex Smalley (70) were tied for second place.

Condolence Prize: Smalley moves up from No. 78 to No. 42 in the world and is exempt from the U.S. Open. His runner-up appearance at the Masters meant he was ranked 42nd, staying within the top 50 and ensuring he would be exempt from qualifying for the British Open.

Key moments: Rye hit seven consecutive one-putt greens midway through the round, including a 40-foot eagle putt on the ninth, a 10-foot save for par on the 10th and a 6-foot birdie putt on the 13th to take a commanding lead.

BONUS SHOT: Rye made a 70-foot birdie putt on the 17th green to move ahead by four strokes with one hole left.

Key stats: The only two players to win a major by shooting at least 6 under over the past 10 holes were Cameron Smith at St. Andrews in 2022 and Jack Nicklaus at the Masters in 1986.

Notable points: Rye is the first English player to win the PGA Championship since Jim Barnes in 1919.

Quote: “Being here is definitely beyond my imagination.” — Rai.

Next year: PGA Fields Ranch East in Frisco.
