Ai Ogura Sets Sights on Aragon MotoGP Comeback Following Leg Surgery

Trackhouse Aprileia rookie Ai Ogura recently underwent surgery for a broken leg and is hopeful to be fit in time for the MotoGP Aragon Grand Prix next weekend. Ogura crashed badly during FP1 at last weekend’s British Grand Prix in Silverstone. Although he managed to complete a lap at Silverstone, he had to withdraw for the rest of the weekend after the severity of his injury became clear.

On Wednesday evening, Trackhouse confirmed that Ogura’s surgery was successful and that he is aiming for a full recovery in time to race at Aragon. Ogura himself stated, “The surgery went well, and my knee is in a good condition. It will take some time to get back to 100% fitness.” He also acknowledged the difficulty in recovering quickly but remains hopeful about his return.

So far, Ogura has had a strong rookie season in the premier class on his Aprilia satellite bike, achieving a best finish of fifth place at the season opener in Thailand. He has been an important rider for Aprilia this year, currently sitting 12th in the championship with 43 points, 13 points behind the leading rookie, Fermin Aldeguer.

Trackhouse indicated that there won’t be a replacement rider if Ogura cannot compete in Aragon. However, Aprilia faces some challenges as their test rider Lorenzo Savadori is already filling in for the injured Jorge Martin in the factory team, limiting options.

Fan Take: This update is crucial for racing fans because Ai Ogura is one of the most promising young talents in MotoGP, and his recovery timeline will impact the competitive dynamics in the upcoming races. His potential return at Aragon could add excitement and depth to the grid, sustaining Aprilia’s growing presence in the sport.
