Viktor Gyokeres has expressed that he is “very happy” at Arsenal and is eager to compete for his spot in Mikel Arteta’s squad.
The 28-year-old forward joined Arsenal last summer, enjoying a productive season with 21 goals in 55 matches, helping the Gunners secure the Premier League title and reach both the Champions League and EFL Cup finals.
Despite this, Gyokeres has faced challenges in the current 2026-27 season, starting only two out of five games and not contributing directly to any goals thus far.
With Kai Havertz being Arteta’s preferred player, Havertz netted three goals in seven outings before sustaining an injury on international duty with Germany.
Gyokeres was rumored to be leaving Arsenal over the summer, with speculation suggesting the club was considering using him in a trade deal for Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.
However, he remains committed to proving himself at Arsenal. “There was a lot of talk, but I had a solid pre-season and felt great,” Gyokeres stated. “My focus has been entirely on Arsenal, and I’m very happy to be here.”
“I want to play as often as possible and hope those opportunities will come my way. I know that with such a talented squad, competition is fierce, but I’m determined to improve and make the most of my chances to score.”
Currently on international duty, Gyokeres has scored twice for Sweden in their Nations League matches and is set to play against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Romania before Arsenal’s match against Leeds United on October 10.
Fan Take: This news is significant for soccer fans as it highlights the challenges top players face while trying to find their footing in a competitive team. Gyokeres’ commitment to fight for his place could not only impact his own career but also add depth to Arsenal’s lineup, which is crucial as they aim for continued success this season.
