Wyndham Clark apologizes for throwing the driver at the PGA Championship

Wyndham Clark apologized Monday for his frustration to do his best and putting the driver at risk after a poor tee shot in the final round of the PGA Championship.

Clark, who was over 3 years old in the tournament, had been a bogeyer, but hit a tee shot to the right on the 16th. Before the ball landed, Clark took the club home and threw it hard into the sign behind the teebox.

The impact left a hole in the sign, snapping Clark’s driver’s head from the shaft. He threw the broken shaft to the side and left both parts of the club behind as he headed towards his ball in the bunker.

“I would like to sincerely apologize for my actions at Hall 16 yesterday,” Clark posted on X on Monday. “As an expert, we are expected to remain experts in our frustration, and unfortunately my feelings have made the most of me. My actions make clear that there is something I need to tackle.

“I’m always up to a high standard trying to play for something bigger than me. Yesterday, I didn’t meet those standards, so I’m really sorry for that. I promise to make a better way of handling my frustration with future courses.

Clark, who won the 2023 US Open, bogeyed four times in a row on the front nine on his way to the 3-over 74 on Sunday, finishing in 50th in the 4th overs, with a tie.
