The summer transfer window officially opened for business on Sunday, with Manchester United already completing their first signing to strengthen their team.

Matheus Cunha was officially announced as the first addition of Sunday summer and took part in a permanent deal from Premier League rival Wolverhampton Wanderlers.

Brazil International will compete for one of the 10th positions behind the central striker of Reuben Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system in the 2025/26 campaign.

Cunha was able to pose a big target threat to the Red Devils with an impressive distance of 15 goals and six assists in the Wolves’ Premier League this season.

It looks like an exciting addition to the paper given that the Brazilian star has already proven himself in the Premier League.

But Liam Dellup isn’t one of them as the Red Devils are set to lose the race to land England U21 International this summer.

Why missing Liam Dellup is a blow to Manchester United

Chelsea will sign the English forward from Ipswichtown following a relegation from the Premier League due to the release clause of the contract at Suffolk.

Champions League football is reportedly a major factor in his decision to decide to move to Stamford Bridge. That may be why he’s not on his way to Old Trafford.

United had previously been reported to be a pole position signing Dellup before losing to the Europa League final, but missing him should come as a blow to the club.

The 22-year-old joined the Tractor Boys on a permanent contract from Manchester City last summer, enjoying an impressive Premier League debut campaign despite failing to keep his side in the division.

As you can see in the table above, Delap is clinical in front of Ipswich’s goals, proving that he can score 12 goals from just 9.34 xg, and regularly score goals at that level.

The release clause in his contract also means he is available at a bargain price of £30 million, and the Red Devils may now have to pay more to find an alternative centre-forward option.

There is a fresh report now revealing that the Premier League giants are considering many other options to bolster their offense in the coming weeks.

Manchester United are targeting targets towards the center of the Bundesliga

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United’s missed Champions League football was a “big blow” as they sacrificed a deal to sign Dellup from Ipswich.

However, the report adds that Amorim has other centre forwards on the radar of the summer transfer window.

RB Leipzig No. 9 reveals that Benjamin Sesco 9 has emerged alongside sportsmarksman Victor Gyoker as one of the options targeted by the Red Devils.

Slovenia International is said to be one of the radar strikers after missing out on Delap to Chelsea, and reportedly he has a £84 million release clause in his contract with the German side.

This suggests that Sesko could be much more expensive than Delap has. Unless you can negotiate a lower fee, it’s £54 million to be exact, but it can arrive as an exciting upgrade to Amorim’s Rasmus Hojlund.

Why Manchester United should sign Benjamin Sesco

The Premier League giants will have to plummet this summer to sign Slovenian No. 9.

During the 2024/25 campaign, we will not leave the fact that Hojlund did not produce enough in front of the league goals. Denmark International finished the season with just four goals from 5.24 xg.

Manchester United’s first choice centered around the Premier League averaged A goals every 506 minutes.

With Sesko, Red Devils was able to find a suitable centre forward to challenge at the top edge of the league table, given the form of this term RB Leipzig.

The 22-year-old star, who scored a sensational Tribel goal against Bayern Munich, ended his 2024/25 campaign with 21 goals and six assists in all competitions.

Sesco, who is described as a “monster” by analyst Ben Matinson, also has consistently scored goals at impressive ratings over the long term, scoring 18 goals in all Leipzig tournaments in 42 appearances.

As you can see in the table above, Slovenia International is significantly better than Hojlund has made at league level this season, with nine more goals and five assists despite playing one more match.

Having scored one goal over Delap, Sesko could be far better than the Danish flop.

Whether it is worth the £84 million release clause of his Leipzig contract is debate as it depends on how much money United wants to spend and what they want to do in the rest of the squad.

However, seizing the financial side, Cesco could become an exceptional addition to the team to improve Amorim’s offensive options as a real target threat in the ninth position.
