Ramin Yamal triumphed in the Baron de Ort’s candidates on Thursday as Spain secured a thrilling 5-4 win over France in the Nations League semi-finals. Spain took control early, with the 17-year-old Yamal observing his French opponents, hoping to outshine key players like Ousmane Dembélé.

"Tonight, Yamal made a strong case for the Baron de Ort," said Spain’s coach, de La Fuente. "He is the world’s best player."

When asked about his coach’s comments, Yamal preferred to let his performance speak for itself. "The best thing is to express myself on the pitch," he remarked.

His two goals were understated yet effective. Spain pulled away in the second half, with Yamal finding the net with a delicate tap-in for a penalty in the 54th minute, increasing the score to 3-0. Just thirteen minutes later, he extended the lead to 4-1 with a well-placed shot under French goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

With Yamal’s exceptional performance leading the way, Spain secured a spot in the finals against Portugal, who edged past Germany with a 2-1 win. Despite the match being billed as a clash of young talent, French players, including Dembélé, seemed weighed down by their recent Champions League defeat.

Yamal acknowledged Dembélé’s talent but focused on moving forward to the final. Spain’s ability to dominate in this match, especially against another Ballon d’Or contender, could be significant for the young star’s future.

France faced an unusual setback, conceding over five goals for the first time since 1969. Spain managed to score at least three goals in a single official match against France, marking a historic achievement.

Nico Williams got the scoring started 22 minutes in after Yamal set him up. Mikel Merino doubled the lead, converting a One Two with Oyalzabal. Adrian Rabiot’s foul on Yamal led to a penalty, quickly followed by a goal from Pedri. Although Mbappé scored from a penalty, Yamal ultimately sealed the win with his second goal, culminating in a tense finish.

"It was a great game," said Yamal. "It was close in the end, but we played well and deserve the victory. France is a strong team; they’ll challenge until the end. We’re pleased with the win."

Fan Take: This victory not only highlights Spain’s resurgence in international football but also showcases the emergence of young talents like Yamal, who could redefine the future of the game. For fans, it’s a thrilling glimpse into a new generation that promises exciting competition at the highest levels.
