This summer, a hunt for Manchester United’s new attack options is underway before the windows open, and the department is desperately looking to invest.

Matheus Cunha may have been the first forward to move to Old Trafford during the offseason, but his £62.5 million move is not expected to be the last of the 2025/26 campaign.

The club’s tally of 44 goals in 38 games underscores the need for additional reinforcements in such regions, but signing can cost a considerable amount of money.

Rasmus Hojlund appears to be allowed to cycle through Napoli and Inter Milan this summer, but it is unclear how much Dane can command after scoring just four goals in the league last season.

The funds generated are likely to support Reuben Amorim in his quest to land a new offensive talent, with many players already being promoted in the summer switch to Old Trafford.

The latest on United Hunt for new additions from United this summer

Rooney Bardozi has been on the United nominee list for the past few days, but it appears they have missed the Swedish youth after a deal was agreed between Copenhagen and Spanish giants Barcelona.

Jean-Philippe Mateta is another name mentioned in the switch to Old Trafford this summer, but the Frenchman is considered a backup option for other targets despite scoring 14 Premier League goals this season.

However, according to the latest updates from Talksport, the same cannot be said about Brentford’s attacker, Bryan Mbeumo.

They claim that the Red Devils made their second offer in the £60 million region for the 25-year-old who scored 20 league goals at Brentford throughout 2024/25.

He also said that speaking with attackers who have already agreed to personal terms on the move to join Amorim’s side is accelerating, but he has not mentioned whether the latest offers are expected to be accepted.

Why United’s £60 million goal will be better signed than nkunku

Despite the latest bid to sign Mbeumo on this window, United took part in a race to sign Chelsea exile Christopher Nukank.

It has been reported that the Red Devils have approached the 27-year-old representative over the move to join the club after starting nine league games this season.

The player himself is said to be keen on moves away from Stamford Bridge after failing to identify a regular start role following the move to the £52 million blues two years ago.

Nkunku is a versatile option that can act as a 10th position or a centre forward, potentially passing the depth you want in the attacking area to the Amorim.

However, when comparing the respective figures for 2024/25, it is unclear how much Enzo Maresca’s side will ask for his signature, as Mbeumo is a very good option.

The Brentford star has far surpassed French talent in many key areas, highlighting why it will be a better option for the Red Devils in the coming weeks.

Labeled “sensational” by Sky Sports’ Mark McAdam, Mbeumo has far surpassed Nkunku, registering high goals per shot at the target rating, and then demonstrated his clinical edge in front of the goal.

He also has the creative ability to register more progressive passes and more important passes around 90, providing additional opportunities for other talents around him – undoubtedly supporting Amorim’s quest for the additional threats he is hunting for.

Cameroon’s advantage is further reflected in his take-on success, allowing him to reach the final third and surrender himself to key areas that have strengthened each tally.

£60 million may seem like a hefty investment in the player behind one impressive season, but the chance to play with more top-level talent certainly helps him maintain such success.

Nkunku offers experienced options within the last third, but it is clear that Mbeumo will become an option that improves the chances of future club success if the club needs to choose one option between pairs.
