LeBron James Embraces New Sports Ventures Amid NBA Career Challenges

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, while still fully committed to his basketball career, has recently taken up a new sport: golf. The 40-year-old shared on social media that he started playing golf, a challenging sport even for top athletes. On July 4th, James posted a video of his golf drive, mentioning it was only his second day attempting the sport. Notably, he was driving from a professional tee rather than the usual male tee, which caught viewers’ attention.

The post quickly drew a reaction from Golden State Warriors star and scratch golfer Steph Curry, who welcomed James to the golf community. Throughout his NBA career, LeBron has often been compared to Michael Jordan, but it might take some time before he matches Jordan’s golf skills. Jordan, who played 36 holes on game days during his career, maintains a single-digit handicap in golf.

Adding to the excitement, the annual Memorial Tournament in James’ home state of Ohio responded to his post by inviting him to participate in their Pro Am event in 2026. For now, LeBron seems happy to enjoy golf as a hobby while simultaneously preparing for what could be his record-breaking 23rd NBA season.

Fan Take: This news highlights LeBron’s versatility and competitive spirit extending beyond basketball, showing a human side to one of the greatest athletes. For basketball fans, it’s exciting to see LeBron exploring new challenges, which could inspire more cross-sport interest and elevate golf’s popularity among the NBA community.
