One of the two remaining American women at Wimbledondrow, 13-seeded Amanda Animova, defeated No. 30 Linda Noskova in three sets on Sunday night to reach the second quarterfinals at the All England Club.
Anishimova chased 3-1 in the deciding set, but her support team told her to “continue to believe” and won five of the last six games, closing Noscova 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in the last match of the day.
23-year-old Anishimoba was also a Wimbledon quarterfinalist in 2022. Her best slam show was to make the 2019 French Open semi-finals at the age of 17.
This is the third major in Anishimova’s career, with her winning multiple three setters, and others appearing at the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2022. She also needed three sets to pass Dharma Galfi in the third round of the year.
No. 10th seed Emma Navarro is another American woman still competing in this year’s tournament. She will play 16 games against No. 7 Mira Andreva on Monday.
Anishimova’s opponent on Tuesday is Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who overcomes missed calls late in the first set, to return to Major Kusakot’s quarterfinals for the first time in nine years.
