Sean Strickland Pushes Back on UFC Legend Dan Henderson’s Allegations

Former UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland has addressed Dan Henderson’s recent statements regarding their split at the gym. Known for his brash personality and aggressive fighting style, Strickland has both gained popularity among UFC fans and stirred controversy throughout his career.

Strickland, who hasn’t competed since losing his rematch against Dricus du Plessis at UFC 312, aims to return to the octagon by year-end. Recently, Israel Adesanya challenged him at the UFC Hall of Fame red carpet ahead of UFC 293. Earlier in his career, Strickland had a public dispute with Xtreme Couture’s manager Eric Nicksick related to his UFC 312 performance.

On the Overdog Podcast, Henderson reflected on coaching Strickland at Team Quest in California, mentioning a disagreement Strickland had with training partners and his tendency to air grievances publicly, which Henderson found disrespectful. Nonetheless, Henderson acknowledged Strickland was a good training partner whom he enjoyed working with.

Strickland quickly responded via Instagram, denying Henderson’s claims and stating he was Henderson’s primary training partner for his last fight. He also noted that he left the gym only after the fight team disbanded and membership renewal was due, and he humorously mentioned regularly sparring with members of Xtreme Couture.

Despite his fallout with Nicksick, Strickland remains a notable figure at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas. Henderson retired after losing the UFC title in a rematch against Michael Bisping at UFC 200.

Strickland’s comeback remains uncertain due to a potential suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after an incident where he and teammate Chris Curtis confronted Louis Hernandez inside the cage post-fight at a Ta’funuuff event. Strickland admitted some regret over throwing a punch but explained his side of the story. The NSAC has yet to rule on the case.

Strickland’s last UFC win was against former title contender Paulo Costa at UFC 302.

Fan Take: This exchange highlights the intense personal and professional dynamics that often shape fighters’ careers and gym relationships. For fight fans, Strickland’s upcoming return and how these off-ring controversies resolve could add another layer of excitement and drama to the UFC landscape.
