  • What Youssef Cermiti still needs to improve at Rangers
  • Rangers have already released a bigger talent than Youssef Chelmiti
        • Rangers back ‘great’ cheap replacement deal for highest paid player

Glasgow Rangers centre-forward Youssef Cermiti’s long wait for a goal in the Scottish Premiership last weekend against a team outside the top three is finally over.

The Portugal Under-21 international scored twice in the club’s final game, a 6-3 win away to Falkirk, marking the first time he has scored for a team other than Celtic and Hearts in 2026.

Prior to his goal against Falkirk, he had only scored one goal against another team in the league all season, but this season his tally stands at 11.

Since joining from Everton for £8 million last summer, Chelmiti has scored 11 goals and provided three assists in 25 Premiership appearances for the Light Blues.

However, the Portuguese centre-forward failed to score a single goal or provide an assist in eight Europa League league appearances.

What Youssef Cermiti still needs to improve at Rangers

Chelmity’s recent form has been commendable, with a hat-trick against Hearts and two goals against Celtic and Falkirk, but he still has a long way to go before he can live up to Danny Rolle’s price tag at Ibrox.

The former Everton marksman needs to add more consistency to his goalscoring game, having only scored in six of his 36 games in all competitions for the Light Blues.

Not scoring in 30 of his 36 games for the club is not a particularly impressive statistic for a player signed for the highest amount paid for a star since 2000.

With his form particularly in the Europa League disappointing, Celmiti needs to find a way to bring more consistency to his finishing inside the box and all-round play next season.

If that happens, the £8m centre-forward could become the stable number nine that Gers have been searching for since the departure of Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers have already released a bigger talent than Youssef Chelmiti

Chelmiti is still struggling to prove himself at Ibrox, but there is now a former Rangers striker who looks to be an even bigger talent.

Robbie Hule came through the Ibrox youth ranks and seemed destined to be the next successor to Kris Boyd, who scored 135 goals in 234 games as a Scottish center forward for Gers.

The Scottish-born youngster scored 22 goals in 48 games for the club at youth level and scored his first senior goal on his debut against Queen of the South in the League Cup in August 2022.

Unfortunately, Oulé opted to leave when his contract expired in the summer of 2023, forcing Rangers to let him go, joining Anderlecht before signing with Swedish side Sirius in March 2025.

Since moving to Sweden, the 22-year-old marksman has proven he can regularly score goals as a clinical finisher at senior level in Allsvenskan.

The young attacker, who is eligible to play for Scotland or Ukraine at international level, has made 33 league appearances for Sirius since the start of last season, scoring 13 goals and setting up five for his team-mates.

In addition, Ure scored five goals in five matches at the Swedish Cup earlier this year, but his team lost on penalties to Hammarby in the semi-finals.

The 22-year-old star currently has 18 goals and six assists in 38 appearances in all competitions for Sirius, meaning he contributes a goal every 1.58 games on average.

Cermiti, on the other hand, has 11 goals and three assists in 36 games so far for Rangers, contributing an average of 2.58 goals every game, showing that Ure has a bigger impact on the team.

These stats suggest the Rangers are releasing an even better talent than Celmiti in 2023. That’s because Cermiti has been at the top level of his career since leaving Ibrox, and at a decent level in Sweden, producing goals and assists more consistently.

Ure could become Boyd 2.0 at Ibrox with his exceptional goal return at Sirius. That’s because, as a Scottish striker, he had the potential to become a key player up front for the club. That hasn’t happened for a while with the Gers, whose front line includes the likes of Morelos, Cyriel Dessers, and now Cermiti.

The Rangers could part ways with James Tavanier this summer.

It’s a shame that the Light Blues couldn’t keep this impressive youngster in Glasgow, but you never know what the future holds and he could end up back at Rangers in the future.
