Jannik Sinner reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals despite injuring his right elbow in a fall in the opening game and dropping his first two sets on Monday night.

Assuming he can continue the tournament, the 23-year-old Italian and three-time major champion will play US No. 10 Ben Shelton for the berth in the semi-finals. Thinner led the Series 5-1 and won the last five matches in straight sets, including last year’s Wimbledon and the Australian Open.
Thinner entered on Monday, losing a total of 17 games in the tournament, with Wimbledon men setting the lowest record in their open days through three completed matches.
The match was paused shortly after he fell late in two sets against Dimitrov, and the sun was waning, so the retractable roof of the stadium could be closed.
After about 30 minutes, the match ended.
Overall, it was Dimitrov’s 10th career retirement in the majors.
“He’s been very unlucky over the past few years. He’s an incredible player. He’s also a good friend of mine. We understand each other very well. “I hope he recovers quickly.”
