Jordan Henderson’s departure from Ajax has been confirmed, with the midfielder expressing pride in having represented “this incredible facility.”

“Jordan Henderson has left Ajax, as the club has been accommodating players wishing to terminate their current contracts. His deal was set to last until June 30, 2026, but will now be cut short.”

Sources informed ESPN on Wednesday that Henderson bid farewell to his teammates at the training camp in Zeist. He recently returned to Liverpool to honor his late former teammate Diogo Jota.

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone at Ajax who allowed me the privilege of representing this remarkable institution over the years,” Henderson stated. “It was a true honor to play for this club, and an even greater privilege to capture its essence.

“I only wish we could have brought more success to our incredible supporters who deserve to celebrate major titles once again.

“My family and I have felt a warm welcome not just at the club but in the vibrant city of Amsterdam. We remain grateful, especially in light of the recent tragic events involving the loss of my former teammate Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.

“I understand that this club, my teammates, and our supporters deserve a deeper, more personal appreciation for what it means to be part of Ajax. I will definitely express that once again. Thank you to Ajax one more time.”

Henderson joined Ajax in January 2024 after completing a stint with Al Ettifaq in the Saudi Arabian league.

The 35-year-old, who has earned 83 caps for the UK national team, has been actively involved in the camps since Thomas Tuchel took over, with Germany being notably supportive of the former Liverpool captain.

During his time at Liverpool, he won both the Premier League and Champions League titles under Jurgen Klopp.

Fan Take: Henderson’s departure marks a significant shift for Ajax and highlights the ongoing challenges clubs face in maintaining star players. For fans, it emphasizes the transient nature of soccer careers and the ever-changing dynamics within teams.
