Shane Van Gisbergen has been excelling in qualifying sessions, securing four straight pole positions in both the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity series, including the recent Sonoma event. At Sonoma on Saturday, he dominated the Cup Qualifier, earning his fourth pole position for the 2025 season. Van Gisbergen expressed excitement about having Red Bull as a sponsor and praised the Truckhouse Racing Chevrolet’s performance, attributing improvements to new tires. He noted that for Sunday’s race, he needs better rear grip and a more balanced car setup.

Chase Briscoe closely followed in second place, just 0.250 seconds behind, driving the No. 88 Truckhouse Racing Chevrolet. William Byron, Ross Chastain, and AJ Allmendinger rounded out the top five. The rest of the top ten included Ty Gibbs, Ryan Blaney, Tyler Reddick, Alex Bowman, and Christopher Bell. Notably, this marks the first pole position with Red Bull as the primary sponsor on a Cup car since Casey Carne’s 2011 pole in Atlanta.

The qualifying event was relatively smooth, with a few minor off-track moments and spins by Ryan Blaney. William Byron set a solid pace in Group A but fell short of pole, while Van Gisbergen quickly topped the leaderboard in Group B and ultimately sealed the fastest time with a 1:14.594 lap. Katherine Leguet did not set a qualifying time and will start 37th on Sunday.

Fan Take: Shane Van Gisbergen’s remarkable streak of pole positions signals a fresh and exciting challenge for NASCAR veterans, highlighting the growing impact of international talent in the series. This momentum not only elevates the competitiveness but also brings fresh energy and global attention to NASCAR, promising an exhilarating season ahead.
