The US men’s national team forward, Patrick Aggieman, has signed a four-year deal with Derby County, a club in the UK Championship, as of Tuesday.

To secure Aggieman’s transfer, Derby County has reportedly paid Charlotte FC $7.7 million.

The 24-year-old Aggieman netted eight goals in 18 games during the first half of the current season for Charlotte, and has scored 17 goals across 59 regular-season matches since 2023.

In his international appearances, Aggieman scored twice during the Gold Cup, where the US team reached the final but fell to Mexico.

Charlotte described the transfer fee as a record for the club, although precise figures weren’t disclosed by either team, despite media reports confirming the $7.7 million amount.

In a statement regarding the transfer, Derby County noted that Aggieman has been dealing with hernia issues.

Derby stated, “Aggieman has managed his hernia injuries without surgery for most of the 2025 Major League Soccer season, but he has been doing so while experiencing discomfort.” Moving forward, he is expected to miss the start of the 2025-26 season to undergo routine surgery.

Aggieman, who was the 12th overall pick in the 2023 MLS Super Draft from East Hartford, Connecticut, expressed his excitement about the transfer during an interview with Derby County’s website. “I heard about this move after joining the national team for the Gold Cup,” he said. “I was definitely interested, but focused on the national team.” He added, “As things progressed, it became clear this was a project I wanted to be part of.”

Derby County narrowly escaped relegation last season, bouncing back to the Championship after spending time in League 1 from 2022 to 2024. Their last Premier League appearance was in the 2007-2008 season.
