Real Madrid’s midfielder Jude Bellingham underwent surgery on his left shoulder in London on Wednesday, according to sources cited by ESPN.

The England international is expected to be out for approximately 10 to 12 weeks.

Bellingham, 22, has dealt with ongoing shoulder problems since his inaugural season in Madrid. He had opted for a rehabilitation strategy that allowed him to dislocate his shoulder during a game against Rayo Vallecano in November 2023, yet continued to play.

As a result, he wasn’t able to achieve full recovery. Bellingham, who featured in every match during Madrid’s Club World Cup campaign, spoke about his decision to go through with the surgery after defeating Pachuca 3-1 last month.

“The operation will take place after the tournament,” he mentioned. “I’m fed up with playing with braces, especially in the heat. I’m really eager for this, hoping my shoulders return to normal.”

Bellingham joined Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2023 and played a crucial role in securing a double victory in both La Liga and the Champions League in his first season.

He recorded 15 goals and 15 assists over 58 matches across all competitions during the last season.

With new coach Xabi Alonso at the helm, Madrid will kick off their La Liga campaign at home against Osasuna on August 19th.

Bellingham is projected to make his return in early October but will miss the beginning of the Champions League group stage and up to eight league matches.

This news is significant for soccer fans because Bellingham has quickly emerged as a key player for Real Madrid, and his absence will be felt in crucial matches. His recovery could also impact the team’s dynamics and performance as they seek to defend their titles.
