Clippers Secure Bradley Beal Following Suns’ Contract Purchase

The Clippers are set to boost their scoring capabilities by acquiring three-time All-Star Bradley Beal after using a contract buyout exemption from the Phoenix Suns. Beal has agreed to a two-year, $11 million contract, which includes player options for the second season, despite originally owing $110 million over the next two years.

Beal replaces Norman Powell in the Clippers’ roster, who was recently traded in a three-team deal that brought forward John Collins to the team. During his time with the Washington Wizards and the Suns, Beal averaged 21.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, shooting 46.4% from the field, 37.6% from beyond the arc, and 82.1% from the free-throw line.

However, Beal has faced injury challenges, missing 58 games over the last two seasons, where he averaged 17.6 points on 50.5% shooting and 40.7% from three-point range. Additionally, the Clippers have bolstered their roster by signing veteran 7-foot center Brook Lopez in free agency on a two-year deal.

This story was originally published in the Los Angeles Times.

Fan Take: This move has the potential to significantly enhance the Clippers’ offensive firepower, making their games even more exciting to watch. For basketball fans, the addition of a prolific scorer like Beal could shift the balance of power in the league and elevate the competitiveness of the sport.
