Report: Source Gardner Joins Jets with Record-Breaking $120 Million, Securing Title as Highest-Paid Cornerback Ever in Four-Year Deal

The New York Jets have successfully retained their young talent by reaching a historic contract extension agreement with cornerback Sauce Gardner, shortly after finalizing a deal with wide receiver Garrett Wilson. Gardner reportedly inked a four-year contract worth $120.4 million, as reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Gardner himself confirmed the extension, describing it as “just the beginning.”

At just 24 years old, Gardner has quickly become one of the NFL’s top defensive backs since being picked fourth overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. He earned the Defensive Rookie of the Year award in his debut season and has been named to two All-Pro teams and two Pro Bowls during his first three years. Despite a down year last season—with 49 tackles, nine passes defended, and two interceptions—hampered by hamstring injuries causing him to miss two games, the Jets still rewarded him with this significant contract.

This move answers a major offseason question about how quickly the Jets would lock in both Gardner and Wilson, who are eligible for major new contracts. The team moved swiftly, securing Wilson first with a four-year, $130 million deal, and then signing Gardner a day later, signaling both stars are central to the Jets’ future plans.

Coming off a disappointing 5-12 record last season, New York is making strategic moves to prevent a repeat. Alongside extending Gardner and Wilson, the Jets also signed quarterback Justin Fields to a two-year, $40 million contract. This trio is expected to bring dynamic playmaking ability as the Jets aim for their first playoff appearance since 2010.

Fan Take: Locking in Sauce Gardner and Garrett Wilson solidifies the Jets’ status as a rising force in the NFL, giving fans real hope for a playoff breakthrough. This level of investment in young talent shows a promising shift toward building a competitive, long-term contender in the league.
