New Spurs Chief Frank Shares a Witty Take: ‘I Craved Greater Risk!’

Thomas Frank humorously mentioned his move from Brentford to Tottenham was motivated by a desire for “more risks in my daily life,” but he emphasized that he will have the time needed to transform the club into a consistent trophy contender.

The 51-year-old will oversee his first match on Saturday, a friendly against Reading, following the signing of a three-year deal aimed at achieving greater success than his predecessor, Ange Postecoglou.

Frank enjoyed a remarkable tenure at Brentford, spanning seven years, where he led the team to the Premier League and established them as a formidable opponent in the league.

In contrast, during his time at Brentford, Spurs changed managers five times, with Postecoglou being the most recent, brought on to look for the club’s first trophy in 17 years after winning the Europa League in May.

When asked about Tottenham’s turbulent managerial history during his tenure, Frank acknowledged the pressure that accompanies a high-profile club. “It’s important for us, as a unit—including the staff and players—to handle that together,” he stated.

Frank expressed confidence in receiving ample time to implement his long-term vision, following positive discussions with key figures at the club. “I’m generally optimistic and believe it’s tough to accomplish the impossible without a hopeful outlook,” he remarked.

He was also questioned about speculation regarding the future of players like Heung Min Son and Cristian Romero. While Son’s contract has a year left, speculation regarding Romero’s interest from Atletico Madrid is increasing. Frank, however, refused to confirm whether Son would retain the captaincy next season.

“That’s a good question,” he noted. “I haven’t finalized any decisions yet; I have several priorities to address. He was the captain last year, and both he and Romero will likely captain their respective teams in our upcoming match. A final decision hasn’t been made.”

“My primary expectation is that every player remains here and trains well. I’ve been very impressed with their commitment and standards, and they’ll be participating in the match tomorrow.”

Fan Take: This news is pivotal for soccer fans, as it represents a fresh beginning for Tottenham after years of managerial instability. Frank’s vision and experience could rejuvenate Spurs, potentially leading to a more competitive team in the Premier League, which excites supporters looking for a return to glory.
