The 2025 Open Championship is one of the UK’s most notable courses, with three days of untouched, difficult and unpredictable link golf, and will be followed seriously. Of the large open fields, only 31 men have finished opening 18 holes with red numbers, and they continue to fight it on the Northern Ireland coast, where they are competing for a jug of clarets.

Royal Portrush is the third time in the history of the oldest golf championship in the world. This course remains a struggle for most people in this field, especially considering that even those like Rory McIlroy, who will return to his home this week, have put together a poor round in this course.

Consider 16-year-old McIlroy set a course record with Portrush at 61. Nevertheless, he quickly left at 79 when the opening was last hosted on the site in 2019. Just 24 hours later, he shot 65. In other words, if the career grand slam winner and native son can be tested by the Royal Portrush, then no one on the field this week is safe.

The action continues on Friday, with Round 2 setting the stage for the final major weekend of the year. The evidence is fulfilled to demonstrate his abilities in the fans, and they are undoubtedly how McIlroy, Shane Laurie, Robert McIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick and other top-tier European golfers alongside the world’s No. 1 Scotty Schauffler and registered champion Zander Shauffle.

Scheffler and McIlroy are looking for a second major of the season, while Scotty has become a fulfilling favorite with +210, while Rory is 8-1 per Caesars Sportsbook despite being within three shots of the lead after 18 holes.
