Reports show Manchester United are ready to make a shocking move on the “World Class” World Cup winner, and had a debate over the contract over the weekend.
Strachan believes Man Utd needs to replace Onana
Former Celtic boss Gordan Strachan suggests that Reuben Amorim will need to replace Andre Onana this summer, given that goalkeepers don’t have the qualities they need to succeed at Old Trafford.
Strachan said: “When I was successful everywhere, I had a goalkeeper with personality and presence. Will it be a physical presence, a character that is always necessary on the team?”
“I don’t think Andre Onana has got one or the other. I don’t think he has a physical presence, and I don’t think he has this personality. He always appears to be at war with his worries about making mistakes, and he may have to go somewhere to regain that confidence.
Amorim appears to agree with the 68-year-old, given that many goalkeepers have already been identified as potential alternatives to Onana this summer.
Now there’s a new update on Man United’s Emiliano Martinez’s pursuit, and a Daily Mail report reveals that he’s ready to launch an “shock” move for Aston Villa’s goalkeeper over the weekend for his contract.
The possibility of signing a 32-year-old loan is being debated, but Villa is unlikely to agree to a deal of that nature, considering that he won’t get anything by allowing him to join United temporarily.
So, while the chances of a permanent departure may be high, the Red Devils may need to pay around £40 million to make the deal. It is unclear whether or not he will be able to pay the fee at that ballpark for the heroes of the 2022 World Cup.
“World Class” Martinez can be upgraded instantly with Onana
Things like Lammens and Costa have yet to prove themselves in major European leagues. This means that while the Villa shot stoppers have already proven themselves at the highest level, it could be dangerous to take punts on either goalkeeper.
Gary Neville praised Villastar as “world class.” This is highlighted by the fact that he has won the best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper Award twice in the last three years, and has made a very important save in between.
Unai Emery also praised Argentina International for another penalty save against Fulham last season, saying: “Emiliano Martinez is the best goalkeeper in the world. Before the penalty I sat on the bench with the dream of him saving it…and he did.”
United need reliable options between the sticks to reestablish themselves at the top level, making it difficult to find a better goalkeeper than Martinez.
