Charlie Woods competed for the Junior PGA Championship with a 6-under par 66 in the second round in West Lafayette, Indiana on Wednesday.

After painting 70 in the first round on the Kampen-Cosler course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex, Woods birded six of six of his first eight holes to make a turn at 5 ann 31 on Wednesday. He birded three of the first six holes in his back, reaching 9 under for the event before consecutive bogeys put Woods back to 7 under.

He is the seven-shot behind Auburn’s commitment in 2027, leader Landen Esterline, with Max Vandermoren and Chase Yenser tied up at 9 under 36 holes.

Woods, 16, failed to qualify for the match round at the US Junior Amateur Championship last week in Dallas. He is currently seeking one of two automatic spots for the Junior Rider Cup team and will be heading to the top two finishers this week. It’s unlikely that Woods will be chosen for it, but there’s also one captain’s pick.

Woods, a junior at Benjamin School in Palm Beach, Florida, won the AJGA team Taylormade Invitational in May. He has not yet made any university commitments.
