Steph Kyriacou’s tee shot on the eighth par 3 at Royal Porthcawl did not touch the grass on Friday. Instead, she flew straight to the cup at the 49th AIG Women’s British Open in a noisy moment.
It marked Australia’s first ace in the LPGA, and she followed it with a birdie in the ninth and made a turn for 33. So far, from round two, Kyriaku has moved up the leaderboard and entered the top 20.
This was the first women’s UK opening held at Royal Porte Call. Authorities have billed as the largest women’s sporting event ever held in Wales. Japan’s Yamashita Yu leads under 11 after a shining 7-under 65.
