Sunderland was interested in signing Ukrainian goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk.

Speaking to Ukrainian outlet Trina, the goalkeeper confirmed that he had interest from the newly promoted Premier League club, but he is pleased to stay at Shakhtardnetsk.

He said to Tribuna: “Yes, I was interested, everything is correct, I can confirm. But I am a Shakhtar player and I am happy about it.”

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano previously confirmed that Sunderland had made inquiries to players but did not submit any specific proposals.

Can Sunderland sign a goalkeeper?

It remains to be seen whether Sunderland will sign a quality goalkeeper before the new season begins. Promoted to the Premier League, they will need to strengthen their team this summer. A trustworthy goalkeeper could be a great acquisition for them. Sunderland will want to prove himself in the Premier League next season and aim to avoid relegation. They need more quality and depth of the team to survive on top flights.

The chance to move into the Premier League may have been exciting for the Shakhtardnetsk goalkeeper, but Sunderland has not made an official approach for him.

Anthony Patterson is currently on the sidelines due to injuries and it is unclear when he will return. Sunderland will need to sign a quality goalkeeper before the new season begins. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Sunderland was very impressive in the championship last season, but stepping up to the Premier League is important. If you want to survive on top flights, you need to properly improve your squad.

There is no doubt that Patterson is a quality goalkeeper, but he needs a replacement for his absence. If he can’t immediately return from his injury, they must look at the signature of a trustworthy keeper as priority.
