With less than 10 days left before the transfer period closes, Newcastle United is reportedly looking at a deal to sign a Premier League rival alongside Manchester City.

The latest in Newcastle striker search

As Yoane Wissa and Malick Thiaw arrived, things seemed to be looking for Newcastle in the end when the deal returned to the table, but they now appear to be destined to put another cruel transfer twist. Reports suggest that despite the initial decision to ease Brentford’s attitude, the bees are currently demanding more than £60 million to sell advances they are currently training with their team.

As things stand, the closest Newcastle to meeting Brentford’s demands is an offer worth £40 million. Whether the forward window changes before closing remains a big question, but forward is no longer the only name in the Magpie shortlist.

A recent report shows that Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen has also made it onto the Newcastle radar. Towering Norwegian International enjoys an outstanding debut campaign in the last Premier League and will undoubtedly be the ideal replacement for Wissa this month.

But like Brentford, the wolves don’t feel like giving the cut price to Newcastle on the rest of the window.

Newcastle received a search for strikers and next summer, it is next seen with recent rumors that the next signature could be a Premier League defender instead.

According to catch-offside, Newcastle is currently seeing a deal to sign Joshu Akiapon from Chelsea in a fresh transfer race with Manchester City. The 19-year-old opposed the Chelsea opening day draw against Crystal Palace, maintaining a clean sheet with a solid performance despite the Blues’ shortcomings moving in other directions.

On Newcastle’s radar, teenagers offer the versatility of the Eddie House instant thanks to their ability to play as both right-back and centre-back. Whether a magpie can convince Chelsea to sell a young star is a completely different question. As things stand, despite interest from City and Newcastle, the people of Stamford Bridge are stuck to the attitude that Achairpon is not on sale.

Called “a great defender in production” by Scout Jacek Kulig, Acheampong should certainly watch wherever he plays football this season and beyond.
