Daniel Levy resigned today from his role as executive chairman of Tottenham Hotspur nearly 25 years later.
Tottenham Hotspur has now confirmed that Levy has left his post. It remains to be seen whether they can bring about high quality alternatives now.
Tottenham already has major changes at the boardroom level, and Levy’s departure now marks the beginning of a new era at the club. The former Tottenham executive chairman has been consistently criticised by fans for his lack of ambition in the transfer market, and it will be interesting to see if his departure can help him bring together the horrible team in the end.
Tottenham has invited several quality players this summer, and has also appointed a quality manager like Thomas Frank. It really feels like the beginning of a new journey at the club.
What did Daniel Levy have to say?
Daniel Levy said on the club’s official website: “I am extremely proud of the work I have done with the executive team and all the employees. We have built this club into a global heavyweight competition at the highest level. More than that, we have been in the year of Lily White House and Hotspur House and Hatspur House and Hatspur with the greats of this sport.
“I would like to thank all the fans who have supported me over the years. It has not always been an easy journey, but great progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately.”
Tottenham makes a surprising decision
Meanwhile, Tottenham confirmed that Peter Charrington, who recently joined the board, will intervene in the newly created role of the non-executive chairman.
The decision from Tottenham will certainly come as a major surprise. Fans have been calling for him to leave for many years, but his exit right after the transfer window will certainly be a shock. You need to wonder why Tottenham didn’t call before the start of the new season.
