Zander Shaufele is not with the Ryder Cup team for the birth of his son

NAPA, CA – Xander Schauffele has a reason he isn’t in the Procol Championship along with the rest of his Ryder Cup teammates. He is in Florida with his newborn son.

Schaufele said in a text to the Associated Press on Tuesday that his wife Maya had recently born a boy named Victor.

Last year, PGA and British Open champion Schauffele missed two months at the start of the season and suffered a slow-healing rib injury. He has not won this year yet, and missed the Tour Championship qualifier for the first time in nine years on the tour.

He took third in the Ryder Cup standings this year for every 36 holes cut he faced this year. Most of them won two majors last year.

Schaufele told the Associated Press last month that he didn’t know what to do with Napa, as he needed a break from the grind, mainly depending on when the baby was born.

“If I think performance helps me, I won’t play,” he said at the BMW Championship.

Schaufere lives in South Florida near four of his Ryder Cup teammates and captain Keegan Bradley.
