  • Kobbie Mainoo is struggling with playing time
  • Amorim is unfair to the young man United

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes urged young midfielder Cobby Mineau to demand answers from manager Ruben Amorim after being overlooked again in Sunday’s Manchester Derby.

In the first episode of the Good, Bad and Football Podcast with Nicky Batt and Paddy McGuinness, the Shoals insisted that Mine had to “bang the manager’s door” and ask why he wasn’t trusted in the starting role.

Despite excelling United last season and creating a breakthrough for the England national team, Mainoo has been named on each of United’s four Premier League fixtures this season.

Amorim reportedly told the 20-year-old he was in direct competition with Captain Bruno Fernandez in one of two senior mid-length roles, putting Mein in a difficult position.

Annoyed, Mainoo asked the club to leave on loan later in the transfer window, but United blocked the move, claiming he remains part of a long-term project.

But Shoals believes the young people should be even stronger.

“After some games where Bruno isn’t playing well, why isn’t he asking the question?” Shoals said.

“On Monday morning, he should be in Amorim’s office asking him to know why he wasn’t starting.”

The discussion also touched on the recent Saga involving Alejandro Garnacho, who fell with Amorim and quickly dropped from United’s plans.

McGuinness suggests that this may serve as a warning to other young people, and Butt and Scholes acknowledge that Mainoo could “scarry” the impact of directly challenging managers.

The teenager is undoubtedly the most promising academy alumni since Marcus Rashford, and even at his younger age, his technical quality and maturity already appears to be ready for the Premier League.

It is wrong to risk developing his development through limited minutes.

Amorim’s claim to attach the Mainoo to the same bracket as Fernandez also appears to be questionable. Fernandez thrives as a creative playmaker, but Mainoo offers a different profile. He’s more of a runner, a controller and someone who can make space for himself in the middle.
