Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahore claims that Bruno Fernandez is not the captain of Manchester United and that he is not the leader.

He acknowledges that Portugal International is a top player, but believes Harry Maguire should be the club’s captain. The English international defender was released from his duties as captain in 2023 by manager Eric Ten Hagg.

Bruno Fernandez’s leadership was questioned

Agbonlahor said on Talksport:

“He’s a great player, but I’m watching Harry Maguire in Chelsea games. He’s hooked on it, he’s physical and aggressive, and he’s talking to his teammates.”

Fernandez has been an extraordinary Manchester United performer since joining the club. However, there is no doubt that Maguire is the leader of the dressing room. Even his actions on the pitch suggest that he is highly regarded by his players and considered one of the leaders.

It appears unlikely that Manchester United will soon change captain, and Fernandez could continue with the armband.

Meanwhile, Manchester United will focus on creating impressive performances over the coming weeks, with them aiming to bounce back hard. They need to get off to a mediocre start to the season and get the campaign back on track.

They hope to finish in Champions League positions and will also do well in domestic competitions. They spend a fair amount of money during the summer transfer period and can’t afford to finish in the bottom half of the league table like last season.
