Carlos Alcaraz paid tribute to his medical team after raising concerns about an ankle injury to reach the quarterfinals in Japan.

After awkwardly landing on his left ankle during Thursday’s opening match, the world No. 1 looked really in trouble. However, there was no real alarm for Alcaraz in a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Zizou Bergs.

“I said it before, but I’m going to say it again. I have the best physics in the world that I trust 100%. I think the work he did for his ankles was great,” Alcaraz said. “I can usually say, I was worried about some movements on the court where I could feel my ankles, but in general I think I had a great match.”

Alcaraz has won seven titles this season, including the French and US Opens.

The PA contributed to this report.
