MADRID – Spanish tennis player Paula Badoza is not expected to play again this year. She says she will continue to fight in 2026 to “come back strong.”

Badosa made the announcement on Instagram Tuesday days after retiring from the China Open due to a left hip injury.

“There are times when I ask myself how I was able to continue doing the toughest moments, and the truth is that it is the exact moment that I discover the deepest strength within me,” Badosa said. “Every setback hurts, but it also reminds me of how badly I want to fight and how strong I want to go back.”

Badosa, who was 18th, retired following 15th place Karolina Mciba 4-2 in the first set on Sunday.

“No matter how many obstacles come, I promise you this. I will continue to fight, I will continue to push, I will continue to find my way.”

Badosa, 27, was just as high as the number two in the world in 2022.

“See you in 2026,” her post said.
