  • O’Rourke’s thoughts on Caicedo’s future
  • Chelsea have no intention of selling Caicedo

Chelsea would need a fee in excess of £115m just to consider selling midfield mainstay Moises Caicedo.

The Ecuadorian international has made a sensational start to the new season. Caicedo has been an outstanding performer for Chelsea so far and has attracted a lot of interest from across Europe.

Several top clubs want to sign the 23-year-old, but Chelsea have no intention of parting ways with him anytime soon. According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, the London club will be asking for well over £115m if they let go of their star midfielder.

O’Rourke’s thoughts on Caicedo’s future

O’Rourke said on the Inside Track podcast:

“For me, they will try to build the team around Caicedo. Caicedo himself is still a young player, only 23 years old, but he seems to have been around for a long time.

“But you can already see this season how important he is to Chelsea. For me, he has established himself as one of the elite midfielders in world football right now with this performance for Chelsea and also for Ecuador, where he helped us qualify for the World Cup.”

“When Chelsea signed him for Brighton a few years ago, they signed him for £115m.

“But it probably looks a bit of a bargain now. As you can see, Caicedo has all the tools to be a top midfielder for many years in the Chelsea team as well.”

“His contract runs until 2031, so Chelsea have secured it and they don’t want to sell him either. If they sell him, they’re going to make a huge profit off him too.”

“So they would be asking for a fee in excess of that £115m to even consider selling Caicedo, and I don’t think any club can reach that figure as well at the moment.”

“Look, there were probably some question marks at the beginning, but it shows that business is good at the moment and they want to keep Moises Caicedo there long-term.”

Chelsea spent £115m to sign Caicedo from Brighton in the summer of 2023. The huge amount of money left many question marks in the transfer business, but the Ecuadorian international managed to calm everything down with his consistent performances.

Not only has he established himself as one of the main players, he is also widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the country. The 23-year-old is currently on the wishlist of clubs such as Real Madrid and PSG.

Chelsea have no intention of selling Caicedo

The defensive midfielder is off to a strong start to the season. He was a rock in front of the final line and also managed to contribute in the final third. Caicedo has scored three goals in seven league games.

He is an integral part of Chelsea’s project and Chelsea are unlikely to let him go. His contract runs until 2031 and the Blues have full control over his future.

The London club’s huge investment in him is currently seen as a bargain, with them likely to reap a significant profit if they are able to let him go in the future. Even if clubs were keen to sign him, it may be difficult to meet Premier League sides’ demands for the 23-year-old.
