Manchester United are planning a major midfield overhaul under manager Ruben Amorim, but one name continues to dominate the discussion behind the scenes: Adam Wharton.

The 21-year-old England international, who plays for Crystal Palace, has emerged as a top target for the club as they look to strengthen their midfield.

According to TEAMtalk, United’s coaching staff are very impressed with Wharton’s all-round abilities and believe he can be a key part of their long-term project.

However, Palace value their star player at a high price, so securing his signature will not be easy.

Wharton quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young midfielders. He has already been compared to Declan Rice at the same time in his career, praised for his calmness on the ball, positional awareness and tactical maturity.

His ability to dictate the tempo of play, protect the backline and contribute creatively in possession is a perfect fit for Amorim’s intense style of play.

United have described Wharton as “much-loved” by Amorim’s team, who believe he is the ideal player to transform their midfield.

The Red Devils have struggled to find the right balance in the center of the park this season, and the addition of a technically gifted and defensively reliable player like Wharton could address these long-standing issues.

However, any transaction requires a large investment. Palace are aware of the growing interest in their midfield star and are reportedly asking for at least £70m for a sale.

While Wharton is clearly a priority, United’s recruitment team are also exploring other options. Among the players being monitored are Borussia Dortmund’s Jobe Bellingham, Brighton’s Carlos Baleva and FC Porto’s Victor Fromholt.

It is clear that Old Trafford need a midfielder and the club are determined to address that issue by making signing a midfielder their top priority next year.
