Team news: Liverpool’s big summer signing only on the bench against Manchester United

Liverpool manager Arne Slott has left Florian Wirths on the bench for today’s crucial game against Manchester United at Anfield.

The Reds spent big to sign Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, but it may not be all that surprising to now see him benched after failing to make an impact.

Wirtz looked like a world-class talent at his old club, but he has made little impact so far at Liverpool and Slott doesn’t seem to trust him in today’s crucial game.

For full team news from Liverpool, see below. The Merseyside giants will instead use Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Kodi Gakpo in their front three…

Liverpool fans will no doubt be a little disappointed with this result, but it will probably be good for Wertz in the long run.

There was always the possibility that the German international would take some time to get used to playing at a new club and in a completely different league.

Can this Liverpool lineup beat Manchester United?

Liverpool have not been at their best lately, but there is no doubt that they will be heavy favorites to beat United this afternoon.

The Red Devils continue to struggle under Ruben Amorim, whose tactics are often a bit confusing and are not suited to the current squad.

Still, this is a great rivalry and United will no doubt be fired up and keen to continue Liverpool’s poor run.

LFC will need to be at their best to get past a tricky opponent, as seen in their last encounter at Anfield last season when they finished 3-3.
