Sunderland have made a great start to their return to the Premier League with a number of impressive players in Regis Le Bris’ side. However, as clubs have begun to pay attention to him, they will soon be able to realize its power.
Saturday’s memorable 2-1 win against Chelsea saw Sunderland promoted to the Premier League’s top four and, although they cannot expect to stay there, they are well on their way to avoiding relegation, which was their goal at the start of the season.
One player who stood out for Sunderland was Wilson Isidore, who played a part in the win against Chelsea. However, some believe that he may retire in 2026.
Sunderland prepare for offer for Wilson Isidore in Aston Villa’s circle
Aston Villa are one of the clubs interested in Isidore, and according to Mick Brown (via Football Insider) Sunderland will find it difficult to keep hold of the 25-year-old forward next summer.
“Unfortunately, this tends to work out. If you get promoted from the Championship and start the season well and your players prove they can impress at this level, you’ll attract interest. It’s a really difficult situation for Sunderland because they obviously want to keep these players.”
“There is a lot of interest in Isidore in particular and a lot of top clubs are looking at him. They will be monitoring his performance against Chelsea because it shows what he can do not only against lower teams but also against higher teams.”
“Sunderland experienced that in the Championship last season and the club looked at the players and that hasn’t changed. I think whether it’s Isidore or anyone else, they will be determined not to lose after starting this well.
For now, Sunderland will continue to enjoy Isidore, but there may be a sense that he could be snatched up in 2026.
