Everton are already planning to do some transfer business in January as manager David Moyes looks to strengthen his squad. Midfield is an area he wants to work on, and he could rely on some familiar faces to do so.
Moyes led West Ham to sign James Ward-Prowse from Southampton in 2023, but nearly three years on, he could have re-signed him at Everton.
Everton line up James Ward-Prowse’s January transfer
Mick Brown has revealed that Everton are interested in signing Ward Prowse from West Ham, according to Football Insider.
“David Moyes knows him well from his time at West Ham. In fact, it was Moisy who brought him here in the first place. He felt he could add something to West Ham that was missing at the time.
“If he feels the situation is the same at Everton now, he might try to bring him in again. So he’s definitely a player on their radar and if he’s available they could bring him in. He’s not in the squad at West Ham and the manager doesn’t seem to value him, but he probably needs a fresh start and Everton would be happy to give him that.
“Looking from the outside, I don’t know if he’s needed by Everton at the moment. He’s a good ball-runner, but they’ve got some of that. I don’t think he’ll provide enough out-of-possession to do the job in that team. But he’s a Premier League player and he’s in a position that Everton want to strengthen and he’s available for what I expect to be a reasonable fee, so I wouldn’t be surprised.”
Should Everton sign James Ward-Prowse?
Ward-Prowse is no longer wanted at West Ham and his departure in January is inevitable. There are doubts as to whether he will add to the quality of the team, but he would be a good player for Everton.
