Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has launched a fresh and deeply personal attack on Mohamed Salah’s actions, sparking fresh controversy.
He accused the Egyptian star of evading media duties during the crisis and speaking publicly only for selfish reasons.
Jamie Carragher slams Salah for not acting proactively during Liverpool crisis
The outspoken Sky Sports pundit has made some sharp comments following Liverpool’s recent poor run of form, suggesting that Salah, one of the club’s oldest players, has failed to step up as a leader off the pitch.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, Jamie Carragher said of Mohamed Salah:
“I think after the game Virgil van Dijk spoke again about what he should do as captain and called Liverpool a mess.
“I have to say, given Liverpool’s defeats so far, it’s always Van Dijk who comes out and, as I said, the captain should do it, but other players in the dressing room should also come out and represent the club.
“One year ago this weekend, Mo Salah shamelessly came out and spoke about his situation and how the club had not offered him a contract.
“The only time I listen to Salah is when he wins man of the match or when he needs a new contract.
“I would like to see Salah come out as one of the leaders, one of the legends of the club and represent the team. He shouldn’t always be the captain.”
Carragher’s long history of singling out Salah
The latest criticism marks a new chapter in Carragher’s history of choosing the four-time Golden Boot winner as the center of public attention.
During another contract dispute last season, Carragher criticized Salah for making public comments about his contract situation.
On another occasion, he again singled him out and called out a cryptic social media post regarding the same contract situation.
This led to Salah slamming him on social media, stating that Carragher was “obsessed” with him.
He’s probably right, as the former Liverpool captain has once again made harsh comments about Salah.
Fans accuse Carragher of bigotry and bigotry after latest comments
The comment immediately drew the ire of Liverpool fans. Many supporters took to social media to slam Carragher, accusing him of being obsessed with the club’s record goalscorer.
Many pointed out that Salah had repeatedly spoken out during tough times for the club and followed suit with his contribution on the pitch.
He also publicly called on fans to support his former teammate.
