Idrissa Gayet receives red card in Everton vs. Manchester United (Sky Sports)

Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye received a bizarre red card for a collision with teammate Michael Keane during Monday night’s game against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Watch the video below. Gueye was clearly not happy with Keane, as Everton’s sloppy play at the back created a decent chance for Man United.

It meant nothing as it was a missed opportunity, but Guay and Keane got into a fistfight and the referee, perhaps a little too harshly, sent Guay off.

It didn’t seem like a particularly violent collision, but was there enough contact to warrant a red card? Take a look and decide for yourself…

Gary Neville said on commentary: “You can see the solidarity between him and Michael Keane. It always seems uncomfortable when they’re team-mates.”

“I don’t know what they were saying to each other. Idrissa Gueye went towards Michael Keane and Michael Keane didn’t really react. And he just pushed him and after that there was no big deal, it didn’t make much sense. I think Jordan Pickford did a very good job to be fair to him.”

Everton will have to play with 10 men for the rest of the game, but it hasn’t affected them too much so far as they took the lead late in the first half.

United have been in good form of late, but Everton pose a real test here, despite the home team having a one-man advantage.

It will be interesting to see how the remaining games go and what Everton manager David Moyes and other players have to say about the Geay-Keane incident.
