Liverpool are reportedly set to bring in the Premier League manager, who Josep Guardiola described as “incredible”, in a renewed concern over Arne Slott.

Carragher gives ‘honest’ verdict on Liverpool after PSV defeat

Before the international break, Liverpool could at least rely on the excuse that much of their poor form had been on the road. Most of Anfield remained a fortress. But just a few weeks later, humiliating defeats at the hands of Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven set that fortress ablaze.

But not everyone is ready to commit time to Slott’s stay at the club, with Anfield legend Jamie Carragher giving a timely warning that, historically, Liverpool are not a club to be sacked.

he said: “Liverpool is not a sacking club. I think Liverpool is different from almost every club in European football where the manager is king and the manager gets time.

“Liverpool have never sacked a manager who won the league, never in their history. They all, you know, resign after a few years.

Arne Slott performed so badly against PSV Eindhoven at Anfield that Liverpool’s failure must be put to rest immediately.

“When I spoke to Liverpool supporters after the home defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend, I couldn’t believe they were talking about the manager’s job.

“It’s only going to get worse now and I’ve always been a stickler for the manager. To be honest, I’m angry with the players, I’m really angry with the players, but with every manager at every club this thing reaches a certain stage and I always use this word ‘unacceptable’. I feel like I can’t continue there any longer. ”

The big question is whether Liverpool’s leaders share that view. Recent reports linking them with the likes of Andoni Iraola certainly suggest they are at least preparing for life without a slot.

Liverpool to keep an eye on Andoni Iraola’s transfer

According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are considering signing Iraola from Bournemouth if they decide to let Slot go. The Cherries manager is a man Richard Hughes is familiar with and given that the sporting director hired the Spaniard during his time on the south coast, he could now rely on him again.

Iraola is one of the most respected managers in the Premier League these days. He has taken Bournemouth to new heights and transformed players such as Antoine Semenyo, who is attracting interest from Liverpool ahead of the January transfer window.

Manchester City manager Josep Guardiola is one of many people in English football to praise Bournemouth, telling reporters earlier this season: “Andoni is an incredibly respected coach in Spain and did a great job at Rayo Vallecano.”

Nothing makes him happier than receiving praise from the Man City manager and a move from Liverpool would give Iraola the chance to become one of their biggest rivals.
